The Super Mario Bros. Movie is getting a new 4K Blu-ray release with a steelbook case on March 4, 2025. Exclusive to Walmart and available to preorder now for $28, The Super Mario Bros. Limited Edition Steelbook is likely to sell out fast. Walmart’s exclusive steelbook releases of popular films often sell out well before launch, and we’re talking about the biggest video game adaptation of all time here.
In a bizarre plot twist, Walmart has also restocked the original steelbook release. You can purchase the Power-Up Edition’s Collectible Steelbook version for $28, too. This edition has largely been sold out since prior to launch last June, but sporadic, briefly available restocks have popped up at major retailers over the past year.
Now, the question you need to ask yourself is: Do you love Question Blocks (the new steelbook) or Super Mushrooms (the old steelbook) more? Or you could be like a-me and buy a-both.

Walmart’s new Steelbook Edition of The Super Mario Bros. Movie is modeled after the iconic Question Block from the games (and film). Instead of bopping it with your head to reveal its contents, you open it like any other case. The interior of the case features landscape artwork depicting the Mushroom Kingdom’s many varieties of large mushrooms.
The steelbook case has slots for the 4K Blu-ray and 1080p Blu-ray discs of the film. Like the original release, you’ll also get a digital copy of the film. The Mario Movie is available on Movies Anywhere, so you can add it to your library and watch on any of your devices.

We can’t imagine the Power-Up Edition’s Collectible Steelbook variant will be up for grabs for very long. But for now at least, you can have your pick of the two. Considering the price of some steelbook editions lately, the $28 price for both of these feels cheap. Heck, even if you bought both, your $56 total for two copies of the most popular animated movie of 2023 would still cost less than the steelbook edition of Inside Out 2, the most animated movie of 2024.
This one has a black case with a Super Mushroom on the front and back. The interior artwork is a landscape shot of the Mushroom Kingdom leading up to Princess Peach’s Castle. It also comes with 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, and digital versions of the movie. The only differences between the two are the case and when your order will ship.
