PlayStation fans don’t realize this, especially with the parting of ways with Shu Yoshida, Scott Rodhe is an Executive that’s PlayStation’s hidden gem praised throughout PlayStation’s first-party development community. Neil Druckmann (Naughty Dog), Corey Barlog (Santa Monica), now Team Asobi, and even former Game Director David David Jaffe (Santa Monica) have all praised this guy. A former Game Tester of Sega during the Tom Kalinske days, what does all of this have in common? He’s the Executive assigned to all of these and their games win Game of the Year.
Contrary to this, Xbox can’t seem to find them, and as usual have an envy for Sonys team and how they do business. Gears of War Collectors Edition Disc “Gears of War – The Road to E3” oddly made it onto their disc and shows the relationship of Executives at Xbox and their devs are. They hate it! Rod Ferguson was briefly with The Coalition and even making Microsoft money wouldn’t have a career there and left after a short time to Irrational Games. The Initiative Xbox planted in the midst of Sonys first-party was hoping they’d intermingle with and learn a thing or two from Sony devs, but there Game Directors can’t stand it and leave quickly as well and Perfect Dark sounds set for another delay to be replaced by The Outer Wilds 2. Xbox Execs are all Harvard and Yale graduates that don’t know gaming, PlayStation execs do and Rodhe is proof of it, devs value his critique and feedback because they know he won’t lead them down a sketchy path and, again, look what happens. Makes a big difference, apparently
