The mechanical keyboard maker Qwertykeys announced Wednesday that it has suspended all U.S. product shipments owing to new tariffs levied by the Trump administration. The Guangdong-based outfit cites a February 1 announcement of 10% tariffs on imported Chinese goods as the motivating factor.
“This new policy replaces all previous tariff exemptions, including the exemption for low-value parcels under $800,” the company writes. “As a result, all keyboards from China to the U.S. are now subject to 45% tariffs at full value.”
Also at play is logistics giant DHL’s addition of a “tariff deposit,” along a new $21 package processing fee.
Qwertykeys is among the first – but almost certainly not the last – Chinese hardware companies to fully suspend shipments over the rapidly increasing cost of business during the second Trump term. New tariffs are having an outsize impact on smaller companies operating with significantly tighter margins.
