Dante Quips But Doesn’t Slay In Devil May Cry Anime Preview Clip

Since the first Devil May Cry game in 2001, Dante has always favored style over anything else. He can dispatch almost any demonic foe without breaking a sweat and finish them off with a quip as he sends them straight back to Hell. In a new look at Netflix’s Devil May Cry anime series, Dante still has his demon-killing skills intact. As for his comedic sensibilities, he may want to take a few improv classes before trying to come up with something witty to say.

Ironically, it’s Dante’s inability to land a joke that keeps the woman he saved from being terrified of him as well. Instead, she seems to be more annoyed than scared at the end of the clip, but Dante doesn’t seem to see himself as anything other than the epitome of cool.

This scene may set the tone for the series, which already has a wild opening credits sequence that’s set to Limp Bizkit’s Rollin’. It seems oddly fitting, since Limp Bizkit and Dante were both pretty popular in 2001.

Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar is producing the Devil May Cry animated series. His previous credits include Netflix’s Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Seung Wook Lee and Hideaki Itsuno are also executive producing the show, and the animation is being handled by Studio Mir, the studio behind X-Men ’97, Harley Quinn, and My Adventures with Superman.

Netflix will debut the first season of Devil May Cry on April 3. So far, Capcom hasn’t disclosed any new plans to make a follow-up to 2019’s Devil May Cry 5. But if anything can change that, it’s a hit show on Netflix.
