Our wait for Samsung’s budget foldable just got a little longer

Summary

  • Samsung has reportedly delayed the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and tri-fold phone to Q4 2025.
  • The affordable Z Flip 7 FE was initially expected to launch at Samsung’s July 2025 Unpacked event.
  • The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is expected to have a folder-shaped cover display and be powered by an Exynos chipset.

It’s no secret anymore: Samsung is rumored to be launching multiple foldable devices this year. The company’s standard updates to its foldable lineup, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, are on the way, but Samsung is also expected to unveil two more foldables: a trifolding smartphone similar to Huawei’s Mate XT and a more affordable flip-style foldable.

However, a new report suggests the wait for that budget-friendly Galaxy Flip may be longer than expected.

Slim phone, big impact

According to reports from South Korea, Samsung has delayed the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and its trifolding phone to Q4 2025. The affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE was originally expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 during Samsung’s July Unpacked event, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for this lower-cost foldable.

Samsung’s cheaper flip-style foldable is still on the way

But not anytime soon

The report doesn’t mention the exact reason for the delay, but it appears Samsung Display is prioritizing foldable screen production for the flagship devices first, with production for the budget and new-form-factor devices following later. That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 are still said to be launching on time, with Samsung Display reportedly having already started mass production of the displays.

We already have a good idea of what to expect from the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, thanks to earlier leaks. According to renders, the phone will feature a folder-shaped cover display, similar to the one found on the currently-available Z Flip models. It won’t have a full cover screen around the camera module like the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7, sticking instead with the older-style external display.

In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is expected to be powered by either the Exynos 2500 or Exynos 2400 chipset (whereas the flagship Galaxy Z Flip 7 is set to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite). The Flip 7 FE will reportedly come with 8GB of RAM and a camera setup similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 from 2023.

The delay may come as a surprise, especially since the Z Flip 7 FE was heavily rumored to debut alongside Samsung’s flagship foldables this summer. That said, Samsung has traditionally launched its Fan Edition (FE) devices in Q4, so the move could simply be aligning with the company’s usual schedule.
