Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Preorders Are Available Now

A bunch of first-party Nintendo accessories are launching alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, and the new Pro Controller figures to be one of the most popular picks. If you’re one of the many Switch owners who doesn’t like using Joy-Con Controllers in docked mode, even when attached to the grip, the Switch 2 Pro Controller might feel more like a must-have accessory than an optional one. You can preorder the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller now for $84 at Walmart ($85 at other retailers). Nintendo Switch 2 console preorders are available now, too, but it’s predictably difficult to secure one at the moment.

The Switch 2 Pro Controller looks quite similar to the original, but it does have one major new feature: two remappable back buttons. Nintendo has also implemented a few quality-of-life improvements as well as the new C button for the Switch 2’s GameChat feature.

Along with the aforementioned new remappable back buttons, you’ll also find a headphone jack, which was a notable omission on the original Switch Pro controller.

As far as looks are concerned, it’s quite similar to the original Switch Pro Controller, with offset analog sticks, a D-pad, four face buttons, and the conventional triggers and bumpers on the top.

The new Pro Controller also features enhanced rumble and gyro motion controls. While the thumbsticks do not use Hall Effect sensors (neither do the new Joy-Con 2), Nintendo’s internal team designed the sticks to offer a smoother and quieter experience.

While the new Switch 2 Pro Controller looks to be an excellent addition for anyone who plans to play the console in docked mode, it’s worth reiterating that existing Bluetooth controllers for Switch will work on the new console, including the original Pro Controller.

The Switch 2’s ability to recognize a vast array of existing controllers means you may also want to consider third-party gamepads such as the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller, the latest addition to the popular manufacturer’s flagship series. Notably, the Ultimate 2 has four remappable buttons as well a wealth of customization features, motion controls, rumble, and adjustable trigger locks. It also utilizes TMR electromagnetic sensors, which are even better than the Hall Effect sticks found in the original Ultimate Controller. As an added bonus, you’ll get a charging dock that includes a compartment to store the USB-C dongle. The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth can also sync wirelessly via 2.4GHz.

Back to official Nintendo Switch 2 accessories: The Pro Controller is once again just one of the two different controller styles Nintendo designed for the new console. The Joy-Con 2 Controllers that come with the console enjoy many of the same upgrades and new features, including the C button and new thumbsticks, as well as unique functionality like an all-new mode that lets you use the Joy-Con as a mouse when detached from the console.

They also have larger buttons that should make it easier to use them when sharing with a friend. If you plan to pick up a second pair of Joy-Con 2 to use with multiplayer Switch 2 games like Mario Kart World, you can grab a pair of Joy-Con 2 Controllers for $95, or pick up a single Left or Right Joy-Con by themselves for $55 each. There are also Joy-Con accessories like the Joy-Con Racing Wheel, Charging Grip, and Wrist Straps.

Even more Switch 2 accessories are available to preorder, including cameras, carrying cases, microSD Express Cards, and more–not to mention numerous Switch 2 games available for preorder as well. Check the list below for a full list of everything available now.
