Summary

  • Samsung is ramping up production in May, speculating tariff concerns.
  • Samsung plans to produce 16.2 million units, including 3.3 million Galaxy S25 phones.
  • Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge launch faces uncertainty amidst tariff threats.

Over the past few months, we’ve seen a rise in news surrounding tariffs, as the climate surrounding imports to the US has started to change. Of course, with these changes, companies have started to react, increasing prices on products, relocating manufacturing centers, or expediting shipments to beat the tariff deadlines.

Samsung appears to be in the latter category, as we’re now getting news from THE ELEC, sharing that Samsung is now making efforts to increase its production volume for the month of May (via Android Authority). While the brand hasn’t shared why this is happening, the news outlet speculates that it may be a reaction to the impending tariffs that loom.

A time of great uncertainty

As of now, there aren’t any tariffs on Samsung’s products, but that could change at any moment, which means it’s better to be safe than sorry. As for how much volume, the news outlet shared some numbers, with Samsung expected to produce up to 16.2 million units of smartphones and tablets for the month of May.

The Galaxy S25 series will be 3.3 million units strong, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra reaching 1.5 million units, and the S25+ and S25 accounting for the rest. Of course, this number just doesn’t include the Galaxy S25 series, but also includes other phone models, and tablets as well. However, it’s important to note that the brand will also scale back shipments for the following month.

According to THE ELEC, Samsung shipped 230 million devices worldwide, with 30 million units going to the US. Samsung is set to launch its latest smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, during turbulent times. The brand announced an event that will take place on May 12, which is just a few days away.

The Galaxy S25 Edge has been teased since the beginning of the year, and while the reactions were strong, it’s all going to depend on the phone’s specifications. Since this is a new product for Samsung, it’s going to be hard to gauge just how popular it is, which means increased pressure to have the right amount of stock available at launch.

Of course, it’s making a huge effort with its reservation campaign, which can save you $50 on the phone prior to its launch. Again, check back on May 12 for all the details.
