Summary

  • Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit, where new flagship silicon for Android phones is announced, will take place in September.
  • Qualcomm will launch the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chipset at the Summit.
  • Rumors suggest the new chipset will offer a performance boost and an improved GPU.

Qualcomm announces new flagship silicon for Android phones every year at the Snapdragon Summit, and the trend will continue this year, with the release of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. However, unlike in previous years, the company has brought forward its annual Summit by almost a month, effectively meaning that we’ll get to see the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite chip sooner than we thought.

At its Computex 2025 keynote, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon officially announced that the company’s next Snapdragon Summit will take place on September 23 and will continue till September 25 (via Netbookcheck). The two-day event will witness the company making significant product announcements, but of all those, the most exciting part of the event will likely be the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 releasing a month earlier isn’t a surprise, though. In fact, in December last year, we first heard rumors that the company had accelerated the development of the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip to release the chip earlier than the first-gen model, which was released back in October last year.

What can we expect in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2?

Qualcomm hasn’t officially confirmed the specifications of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, but rumor has it that the chip will be based on TSMC’s 3nm process. The GPU performance on the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite chip will also reportedly be improved. Overall, a 20 percent boost in performance is expected in the second-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

While these are welcome improvements, rumor has it that Qualcomm will charge more for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip due to a surge in application processor (AP) costs, which, in all likelihood, will be passed on to consumers. In other words, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2-powered Android flagship phones may cost more than what you expected. Again, these are all rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.

However, as we get closer to the official date, we’ll get more details about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip. We’re also equally excited to learn which Android OEM uses the chipset on their phones first. It’ll be interesting to see whether Android manufacturers confirm their Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 phones before the official announcement from Qualcomm.
