Nintendo Switch Mobile App Updated With GameChat And Other Switch 2 Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 launch is now one week away, and Nintendo is gearing up for what it hopes to be another successful chapter in the company’s long history. The most recent update comes from the official Nintendo Switch mobile app, which has added functionality for new key features that line up with the next Nintendo Switch console.

As spotted by Wario64 on X, the Nintendo Switch app update includes the ability to automatically receive screenshots and videos captured on the Switch 2, with a limit of 100 files stored for a maximum of 30 days. The app will also let players invite friends to the new GameChat feature, view those friends’ play history, and add new friends via friend code or QR code right from the app.

The app update comes on the heels of multiple videos surfacing with unboxings and menu walkthroughs of the Switch 2, suggesting that some players may have acquired their consoles prematurely. While Nintendo has not commented on these videos–which, as of this writing, have been removed from YouTube–it has made an attempt to combat scalpers through a partnership with online “flea market” sites.

The Switch 2 will feature a launch lineup of 20 games, including Mario Kart World and updated Nintendo Switch 2 editions of both The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom. The console will also see Nintendo GameCube games come to the Nintendo Switch Online service exclusively on Switch 2, with The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Soulcalibur 2 among the first games to be playable.

Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in North America on June 5.
