Google Meet makes screen sharing faster and sharper

June 5, 2025

Summary

  • Google Meet is improving the screen-sharing experience with faster and better quality video.
  • The screen sharing button in Meet is also getting bigger and easier to find.
  • Google allows direct content sharing from external cameras, in up to 1080p resolution.

Google Meet is currently the company’s only video calling and conferencing service, designed for both consumers and enterprise users. Like its other services, Google keeps improving Meet with useful features for a better video calling experience. After rolling out a new in-call layout in March this year, the company is now enhancing the screen-sharing experience in Meet by making it faster, sharper, and smoother than before.

It’s finally happening

Google says starting screen sharing in Meet is now faster than before, whether it’s a desktop, window, or tab. You will also notice sharper screen sharing quality, with better handling of text or video while scrolling. Another nice quality-of-life improvement: Meet will automatically resume a previous screen-sharing session when the second presenter stops their screen sharing.

The screen sharing button itself is also getting bigger and being “positioned more intuitively alongside other key controls” to make it easier to find.

Google Meet Screen Sharing improvement

If you use an external camera, document camera, or video production tool in Meet calls, Google will now allow you to present content directly from it. You no longer need to start a screen-sharing session and then switch to the external video source.

However, you must first jump into Meet settings > General and enable the Share content from camera option. Enterprises and educators stand to benefit the most from this change. Plus, the quality gets a boost to Full HD (1080p) resolution at 30fps.

These Meet improvements started rolling out on June 4 for Rapid Release domains and can take up to 15 days to appear. For Scheduled Release domains, the features will go live starting on June 11, 2025.

Google Meet recently gained real-time speech translation

At I/O 2025 last month, Google added real-time speech translation support to Google Meet, albeit in beta. The feature is only available to AI Pro subscribers and currently only supports translations between English and Spanish. Google plans to add support for more languages, including Italian, German, and Portuguese. For now, the feature works exclusively on desktop calls.

Once enabled, the feature will automatically translate your voice in almost real-time into the selected language (English or Spanish) in a voice similar to yours.
