Hitman Is Coming To MindsEye This Year

Next week, Build a Rocket Boy and former Grand Theft Auto lead developer Leslie Benzies will debut MindsEye, a sci-fi action-adventure that has more than a passing resemblance to the GTA games. Players may not be familiar with the game’s hero, Jacob Diaz, but they’ll surely recognize Agent 47 from the Hitman games, who makes a cameo at the end of MindsEye’s Summer Game Fest trailer.

The trailer was set to Tears For Fears’ Mad World, which gave us Gears deja-vu. But the highlight of the trailer was Agent 47’s silent cameo at the end. Following the trailer, Hakan Abrak–the CEO of MindsEye’s publisher, IO Interactive–noted that Agent 47 has taken a contract in Redrock City. He didn’t say if Jacob will be the target, but if he is, that would put players in the unusual position of being hunted by Agent 47 rather than playing the Hitman themselves.

Unlike many of the people Agent 47 deals with, Jacob is more than just an ordinary guy. The MindsEye has been implanted in his head, and it gives him the ability to control drones and a handful of other tricks that make him difficult to kill. The story of the game revolves around Jacob’s attempt to piece together something missing from his memory with the MindsEye as his guide while evading an unknown faction that’s trying to kill him.

Build a Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard recently caused some controversy when he agreed with the statement that someone is financing a negative campaign against the game without any evidence to support such an accusation. Earlier this week, two executives from Build a Rocket Boy departed the company without explanation.

The MindsEye X Hitman crossover will arrive this summer, but MindsEye itself will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on June 10.
