While Google Pixel smartphones are known for their helpful AI features and fast Android updates, one thing they’re not really known for is battery life. While I’ve generally been happy with the battery life on my Pixel 9 Pro, it still can’t match the likes of the OnePlus 13 and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Google took a good step toward improving this with the launch of the Pixel 9a, equipping it with the largest battery ever in a Pixel phone. Alongside the large battery, the Pixel 9a also shipped with one of Google’s most exclusive features: the battery health assistant protection feature.
During the Pixel 9a launch, Google explained that this feature would help protect the long-term battery health of the Pixel 9a and would soon come to other Pixel devices — and it seems it won’t be long.

App researcher AssembleDebug (via TheSpAndroid) was able to activate the Battery Health Assistant on their Pixel 9. According to the leaker, an upcoming Settings Services app update will bring this feature to other Pixel models, although it’s currently unclear which models will support it.
The Battery Health Assistant gradually decreases the maximum voltage of the battery (or the maximum capacity it can charge to) to protect battery health. This is all done automatically based on your phone’s charge cycles. When enabled, you might notice slightly lower battery life compared to when your phone was new and longer charging times.
Once the feature arrives, you’ll be able to activate it by going to Battery settings > Battery health > Battery health assistance. On devices other than the Pixel 9a — on which you can’t disable it — users will be able to toggle the feature on or off, although Google will warn that disabling it could potentially impact long-term battery health and performance.
The feature hasn’t started rolling out just yet, but given the leaker spotted it in the Settings Services app’s source code, the rollout shouldn’t be too far off. We’ll update you as and when the feature starts arriving on older Pixel models.
