Switch 2 Update Is Out Now, Here’s What It Fixes And Improves

The newest Nintendo Switch 2 update has arrived. Version 20.2.0 arrived on July 14, fixing an issue with the game’s parental control settings and an internet issue.

The patch notes explain that the Switch 2’s parental control settings previously may not have correctly transferred from Switch 1 to Switch 2 as part of a system transfer. As for the internet issue, players encountered issues blocking them from advancing past the “Searching for networks” prompt, but that’s been fixed now with this new update. Finally, the new Switch 2 update includes “general system stability improvements” that Nintendo didn’t provide any specific details about.

Datamining expert Oatmealdome found some additional improvements with the update, including problems with backwards compatibility for Switch 1 games. Specifically, Portal 2 should run better on Switch 2 now.

The July 14 update is just the third-ever Switch 2 update since the console launched in early June. There was a day-one update adding many features and then an update on June 18 adding system stability improvements. This newest update arrives just days before Nintendo’s next big release, Donkey Kong Bananza, releases on July 17.

The PS5 also just received a new update recently, but it doesn’t do much.

In other Nintendo news, the next Nintendo Direct could be coming up any day now, but Nintendo has yet to make any official announcements.

Ver. 20.2.0 (Released July 14, 2025)

  • Fixed an issue where Parental Control settings were not transferred to Nintendo Switch 2 from Nintendo Switch in certain circumstances during a system transfer.
  • Fixed an issue where you could not proceed past “Searching for networks” in Internet Settings within System Settings.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
