Mortal Kombat 2 Movie Poster Pokes Fun At Tom Cruise And Mission: Impossible

We’re still waiting for a Mortal Kombat 2 trailer to drop ahead of the film’s release later this year, but for now, you can content yourself with a new poster featuring Johnny Cage. The A-lister has several action movies to his name, and this new one for “Uncaged Fury” pokes fun at actor Tom Cruise and his first Mission: Impossible adventure. It’s pretty good, but not as good as Cage’s masterpiece, Ninja Mime.

In Mortal Kombat 2, Cage is played by Dredd and The Boys star Karl Urban. A bona fide martial arts expert who used his talent to launch a lucrative Hollywood career, Cage usually serves up fists and references to the movie industry whenever he makes an appearance in the game. Things have been quiet when it comes to news on the sequel, but what we do know about Mortal Kombat 2 is that it reunites most of the surviving cast from the first film and pits them against Shao Kahn and his Outworld forces.

After nine consecutive defeats in the Mortal Kombat tournament, it’s all or nothing for Earthrealm if it wants to avoid being merged with Outworld. Mortal Kombat 2 will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.

Meanwhile, things are a little strange in the video game department of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Support for Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to a close following the release of the game’s definitive edition, as developer NetherRealm said that it needed to focus on its next project.

Fans of the old-school Mortal Kombat games are in for a treat, as a compilation of the arcade classics is on the way. Digital Eclipse and NetherRealm recently announced the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, a compilation of arcade, handheld, and console games from the early years of the series.

In total, there’ll be 10 games that will feature modern enhancements like rollback netcode. Similar to its work on Tetris Forever and Atari 50, Nightdive will also give players a behind-the-scenes look at these classic games through archival footage and brand-new interviews.
