Nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards were announced today, and HBO’s The Last of Us–based on Naughty Dog’s video game series–scored numerous nods.

The Last of Us was one of the most-nominated series this year, picking up 16 total nominations, compared to 24 for Season 1. Pedro Pascal (Joel) was nominated for Best Actor, despite only appearing in three of the season’s episodes. Bella Ramsey (Ellie) nabbed the Best Actress nomination, while Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Catherine O’Hara (Gail), Jeffrey Wright (Isaac), and Joe Pantoliano (Eugene) also scored nominations. The Last of Us overall picked up a nomination for Best Drama.

Other nominations for the series included Best Production Design, Casting, Picture Editing, Contemporary Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Supervision, Nonfiction Short (for its making-of documentary), Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Special Visual Effects.

The Last of Us didn’t receive any writing or directing nominations, however, while many are saying Isabela Merced was snubbed for her prominent role of Dina.

“On behalf of the entire development team at Naughty Dog, thank you to the Academy, and a huge congrats to the entire cast & crew of The Last of Us Season 2 on their Emmy nominations!” Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann said. “To see the story of The Last of Us Part II celebrated and find new life and new fans has been a thrill for our studio.”

Apple’s Severance led the way this year with a whopping 27 nominations, followed by HBO’s The Penguin (24) and The Studio and The White Lotus with 23 each.

The Last of Us is coming back for a third season, which will focus on Abby’s story. However, there is no word yet on when Season 3 will arrive.

As for the game series, a new update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered added a chronological mode. It’s also rumored that Naughty Dog is making The Last of Us Part III in addition to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
