Samsung’s first tri-fold tipped to launch this October

Samsung’s annual foldable flagships are now out of the way, and it looks like the South Korean tech giant again has its head down as it focuses on subsequent devices to come within the year.

We know that the Galaxy S25 Fan Edition (FE) is slated to arrive later this year, but Samsung’s ambitions extend far beyond.

Galaxy Z Trifold?

A report earlier today alluded that Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold device, which was previously expected to be named the G Fold, might retain the company’s flagship Z branding. Samsung has already registered a trademark for the “Galaxy Z Trifold” in South Korea, and that might be because the phone-maker is looking to release the device in roughly three months from now.

Opting for a launch timeframe after the hype surrounding Apple’s September hardware event dies down, Samsung is reportedly looking to launch its highly anticipated tri-fold device this October. Prior to today, we only knew that the device was coming “at the end of this year.”

Samsung finally confirms launch plans for its first tri-folding phone

It’s coming “within this year”

The information was first highlighted by credible industry leaker Ice Universe on Weibo (via Android Authority), and according to them, the tri-fold device will have competition right out the gate.

The October launch would place the Galaxy Z Trifold/Galaxy G Fold in direct competition with Huawei’s second-gen MateXT tri-fold, which is rumored to be launched in September.

We have to pay a premium for a reason

It isn’t entirely clear if Samsung will host an event for the device, or if it will simply be unveiled online. Considering that this would be Samsung’s first tri-fold device, the former seems more plausible. The tech giant could also make the event more viable by unveiling the Galaxy S25 FE, and perhaps even its upcoming extended reality (XR) headset.

The tri-fold is expected to be limited to Korea and China, with wider availability currently uncertain.
