Jon Stewart reacts to Stephen Colbert’s cancellation in scathing 15-minute monologue

Jon Stewart spent half of his monologue on Monday railing against CBS, a network owned by the same company that runs the Daily Show, and which recently made the controversial decision to cancel The Late Show for “financial reasons” — just days after host Stephen Colbert called them out for paying “a big fat bribe” to President Trump.

In the video above Stewart makes his feelings about the cancellation, and the possible reasons for it, abundantly clear, highlighting the proposed $8 billion merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media that would require the Trump administration’s approval to go ahead.

“Look, I understand the corporate fear. I understand the fear that you and your advertisers have $8 billion at stake. But understand this: Truly, the shows that you now seek to cancel, censor and control, a not insignificant portion of that $8 billion value came from those fucking shows. That’s what made you that money,” Stewart said. “If you believe, as corporations or as networks, you can make yourselves so innocuous that you can serve a gruel so flavorless that you will never again be on the boy king’s radar, A) Why will anyone watch you?, and B) You’re fucking wrong.”
