Google Home Routines loses and gains something this update cycle

Google Home isn’t exactly in the best shape right now, with tons of issues plaguing the experience. The bad news is that you’ll need to deal with these problems daily if you’re a frequent user, but the good news is that Google is working on a major overhaul that’s set to arrive sometime in the fall.

Of course, Google isn’t just relying on that overhaul to make everything better, and is also making smaller changes along the way as well. 9to5Google reports that Routines is now finally fixed in Google Home version 3.37. You won’t need to search for any updates, as it appears that this is a server-side fix.

Something bigger is coming

While this is a minor change, the good news is that users will no longer have to look at a UI that’s broken, and will have complete access to all the available features on Android. The image above shows a before and after of the UI change, with the update correcting some of the areas of the menu that were previously harder to see.

In addition to the change above, it appears that Routines may end up without a widget with the following release, as a Android Authority is reporting that the Routines widget is no longer present in the latest beta release of Google Home. While not fully fleshed out, it would at least allow you to pop into the Routines menu for easier access.

This isn’t the toughest pill to swallow from Google. However, it is a bit disappointing considering the current state of Google Home. It’s important to note that this was something seen in the beta, so there’s always a good chance that things could change. Naturally, we won’t be able to confirm the removal until the next version of Google Home.

While Google offers plenty of great tools and features, with so much on its plate, sometimes a lot of projects fall by the wayside or get shelved entirely. So enjoy access while you still have it, because with Google, there’s a pretty good chance that something you love is no longer going to be a part of the experience later down the line.
