Samsung’s thinnest phone could have a chunky battery

We’re at that point in the calendar where rumors of the next Samsung Galaxy start coming in thick and fast. And hoo boy, are the S26 rumors really starting to come in. The Galaxy S26 Edge, successor to the latest Galaxy S phone, is currently rumored to be replacing the Galaxy S Plus as the middle child in the Galaxy S26 range, so it makes sense there’s been a lot of speculation about it recently.

One of the major issues faced by the S25 Edge was that the phone’s extreme thinness meant it didn’t have much room for a large battery capacity. However, it may be that Samsung has cracked the code on that particular enigma, and the S26 Edge may sport a significantly larger battery.

Latest rumors say battery will be even larger than expected

Speculation is rife

The S26 Edge’s potential battery size has been the subject of much speculation, largely because of the S25 Edge’s disappointing performance. Battery capacity was always going to be sacrificed in Samsung’s quest for a thinner phone, and most reviews agreed that the Edge didn’t have the juice to go the distance. Samsung has seemingly taken that advice to heart though, as many of the rumors about a new Edge revolves around the battery.

The latest rumors come from Chinese social media website Weibo, and claim the S26 Edge may have a capacity of up to 4,400mAh (via Phone Arena).

That size is a whopping 500mAh more than the S25 Edge’s 3,900mAh battery, and, if true, it would likely provide a significant boost in battery lifespan.

The question of how reliable this particular source is, though, is unsure. Previous rumors from Galaxy Club put the Edge’s battery upgrade at 4,200mAh, while say Samsung will be adopting a new silicon-carbon battery technology to allow for a larger battery without increasing the phone’s thickness. Both of those leakers have good track records, so we’re more likely to give them the benefit of the doubt over the Weibo leaker.

Of course, there’s a universe where both of these leaks are true, and Samsung has discovered it can make batteries even larger with the new silicon-carbon technology. But that’s just more speculation; we won’t know for sure until more rumors wing our way.

As it stands, the S26 Edge is looking to be with us for some time, which is great news for anyone looking for a thin new phone.
