UFO 50 is out now on Nintendo Switch, Indie World showcase confirms

Nintendo just held another Indie World showcase, highlighting games from independent developers who are bringing what they’re working on to Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. The highlight of the show for me came right at the end of the final sizzle reel with UFO 50.

UFO 50 is an extremely ambitious retro video game project, where several indie developers came together to create a collection of 50 original games. It was one of my favorite games of 2024, and it is launching on Nintendo Switch today.

What was announced at Nintendo’s August 2025 Indie World showcase?

UFO 50, Mina the Hollower, and more

This Indie World showcase is definitely the biggest spotlight many of the indie games featured have ever had. But that wasn’t exactly the case for UFO 50, which got a lot of buzz upon its PC release last year.

Spearheaded by Spelunky developer Derek Yu, UFO 50 brought several different independent developers to create a 50-game collection of 8-bit titles that were all supposedly made by the same fictional company. The scale of this project is very impressive, as these are all full-fledged games that you could spend hours playing.

I recommend you check out Mortol first, but you can play the games of UFO 50 in any order. It’s an absolutely stunning achievement for both indie game and retro-inspired game development, and I consider it a must-play. It’s also an excellent portable game on Steam Deck, which is why it’s awesome that UFO 50 is finally on Nintendo Switch starting today.

Some of this Indie World’s other highlights were a demo release for Shovel Knight studio Yacht Club Games’ Mina the Hollower and Is This Seat Taken, a puzzle game about placing people in the right place in a variety of different settings. There were also exciting port confirmations for Go-Go Town, Content Warning, and Caves of Qud.

Overall, 18 games (if you count UFO 50 as only one title) were featured in the latest edition of Indie World. You can see the full list of games featured below:

  • Mina the Hollower
  • Well Dweller
  • Neverway
  • Herdling
  • Is This Seat Taken?
  • Little Kitty, Big City
  • Content Warning
  • Ball X Pit
  • Ultimate Sheep Raccoon
  • Glaciered
  • Winter Burrow
  • Undusted: Letters from the Past
  • Tiny Bookshop
  • Caves of Qud
  • Strange Antiquities
  • OPUS: Prism Peak
  • GO-Go Town!
  • UFO 50

I thought it was a generally strong Indie World, giving me a glimpse at several games I didn’t know about, and I am now very excited to play. In addition to UFO 50’s Switch port, I can’t wait to try out Mina the Hollower, Is This Seat Taken, Ball X Pit, and Caves of Qud.
