Gboard’s integration with Bitmoji could end this year

August 24, 2025

Gboard is among the most popular keyboards for Android. Although you will find plenty of alternatives, such as SwiftKey, it’s hard to look past the features provided by Google’s offering.

One such feature that makes Gboard great is support for third-party customizable sticker providers like Bitmoji. After nearly a decade of being a fixture on Google’s keyboard, it seems like the end is near for Bitmoji.

Looking through the latest Gboard beta (version 15.8.4.793526320-beta-arm64-v8a), Android Authority has discovered and activated a message that’s currently hidden within the code. This message bluntly states that Gboard will end support for Bitmoji on December 15, 2025.

It was a good run for Bitmoji

The specificity of the date suggests that this has been on the cards for a while and that the date is unlikely to change. However, with Google not yet confirming this development, it’s difficult to confirm if Bitmoji will really leave Gboard on that date.

It’s unclear when Gboard will display this message to users. However, with the necessary code already available in the app, it shouldn’t be long before it’s visible to everyone.

Although Gboard could lose support for Bitmoji in the middle of December, this pop-up reassures users that their selfie-based stickers will remain available across other apps, including the Bitmoji app itself.

The removal may come as a surprise to some users, particularly those who frequently use Snapchat. However, given the breadth of options currently available for stickers on Gboard, this was always on the cards.

Longtime Gboard users will recall that Google tried a similar venture with selfie stickers known as “Minis” back in 2018. However, Google pulled the plug on this project in 2021, thereby ending its brief experiment with personalized stickers.

In other Gboard news, the keyboard recently received an update with Autofill improvements for Google Password Manager. We’ve also spotted work this month on the ability to mark your Emoji Kitchen creations under “Favorites.” When available, this should save users time when they want to use the same custom sticker on another occasion.

Will you miss Gboard’s Bitmoji integration when it’s gone? Let us know in the comments below.
