Are you utterly perplexed by The Mist in Hollow Knight: Silksong? There are several secret areas in Pharloom, and this is just one of them. What makes this location unique is that it’s akin to a maze. One wrong turn and you could find yourself lost for a very long time. Here’s what you need to know about finding your way out of The Mist.

How to escape The Mist in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Mist is a special location that’s sure to be a challenge for adventurers. We recommend having a bunch of upgrades, including Mask Shards and Spool Fragments. You should also complete the main quest to break the curse at Bellhart. Doing so nets you the Needolin ability, which allows Hornet to play her weapon akin to a violin.

What can you expect when you enter The Mist?

Here’s a quick summary of what you can expect if you venture into The Mist in Hollow Knight: Silksong:

  • The Mist is connected to two areas: Sinner’s Road and Bilewater.
  • There’s no map for this entire sub-zone.
  • If you enter the wrong room, your next location will be randomized and you won’t be able to escape.
  • If you fall down to your doom, you’ll lose health and you’ll have to restart from the first area.
  • Every room is littered with traps, as well as Wraith enemies. Wraiths can quickly swoop in to deal damage and drain your silk energy. The best way to counter this move is by jumping up as they shriek, then doing a pogo maneuver to hit them as they glide toward you.
Playing your Needolin for the butterflies causes them to move to the correct exits.

The Needolin and ghostly butterflies

If you want to escape the Hollow Knight: Silksong Mist sub-zone, then you need to pay attention to the ghostly butterflies in each room. Stand next to the butterflies and hold the button to play your Needolin. This will cause the butterflies to float to the correct exit.

You’ll know you’re on the right track if, instead of a large room, the next location changes to a straight horizontal corridor. This process must be done several times correctly so you don’t restart from the beginning.

The Exhaust Organ and the Phantom

If you manage to survive the ordeal, you’ll find yourself in another area known as the Exhaust Organ. This sub-zone has a few goodies, including some Lost Fleas for you to save. If you follow the interior pathways to the top-left, you’ll stumble upon a chamber where someone is playing the piano. Your disturbance won’t go unnoticed, because this leads to a battle against a secret boss known as The Phantom.

That does it for our guide on how to escape The Mist in Hollow Knight: Silksong. As you’re roaming around Pharloom, you might want to discover other well-hidden stuff, such as Simple Keys and unlockable rewards.

Play as Hornet and brave the dangers of the Kingdom of Pharloom. If you need help with various secrets and challenges, you can always check our Hollow Knight: Silksong guides hub.
