Samsung and Apple are some of the largest phone brands in the world, so as you’d expect, there’s always some healthy competition involved between the two, especially when new products are released. And if you’re someone that loves tech, you’ll know that when certain months of the year roll around, things always start to heat up.
For Apple, that time comes in September, with the brand showcasing its latest iPhones. This year’s event came like clockwork, and we got to see the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Air. And while folks are praying for a foldable iPhone soon, we didn’t get to see anything of the sort this year, which Samsung was quick to point out on X (formerly Twitter).
Samsung being Samsung
The funny part about this specific tweet is that Samsung made this same joke a few years back, mocking Apple’s lineup in 2022 for not including a folding phone. Samsung was quite early in this space, with the original Galaxy Fold making its debut in 2019. The brand has continued to refine its foldable lineup, releasing some of its most impressive handsets yet with the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
In addition to the above, Samsung also called out Apple over the introduction of Sleep Score, and also wasn’t impressed with Apple’s new live translation feature. And while the 48MP trio of cameras on the new iPhone 17 Pro are an improvement, it’s not quite the same as the 200MP sensors Samsung packs into its top-end devices. Samsung has some valid points here, but Apple’s always been slow to adopt new tech.
With that said, Apple has proved time and time again that it doesn’t need to be first. Millions of people will still go and buy the new iPhone regardless of the technology that’s inside. And while we’d love to see Apple respond with something clever, the brand usually tends to let its sales numbers speak for themselves.
For the first time, Apple topped Samsung in first quarter sales numbers this year, despite the latter delivering its Galaxy S25 series in January. As you can imagine, this is a pretty big deal, and could be the start of a new trend that sees Apple being more dominant all throughout the year, regardless of when its competitors release its products.
Samsung’s been in a pretty strong position in regard to its foldables, despite its lackluster releases over the past few years. The US just doesn’t have enough competition, with the likes of Motorola and OnePlus failing to get its products in front of consumers’ eyes. Google’s a fairly recent competitor to enter the market, and while things are improving, it’s not quite there yet with its Pixel Pro Fold series.
Which is why 2026 will be an interesting year, as there have been rumors that Apple will deliver a foldable phone of its own for the first time in the company’s history. Now, this loops back to what we said before about Apple not always being the first to market. But if it can manage to execute its device well, the brand will get ovations for delivering a polished product out of the gate when others couldn’t.
While Android users will typically swear by the OS for a variety of different reasons, which means sticking with Android OEMs, it’s never too late to get people to switch.
