Whether a game is souls-like or not, people are going to have opinions. If combat looks like a 1-on-1 setup, with you locked on an enemy and managing stamina in melee fights, it is not unreasonable to call it souls-like for comparisons at least until we actually play it. A lot of developers insist their games are not souls-likes even when they clearly share similarities. I am looking at WuKong and Stellar Blade.
Do I think this is a souls-like? No, not at all. But the combat clearly has visual and mechanical elements that evoke that style. It reminds me of Hell is Us. It is not a souls-like except in combat.
Maybe this game shares some of those design choices with the approach to combat, too. We won’t know for sure until we play or see more. And people will be able to call it like it is. There is no reason to get worked up over it.
