YouTube Music Now Playing has a brand-new look on both Android and iOS, according to 9to5Google, and it might take a little adjustment for your muscle memory when you’re listening to your favorite music or podcasts.
A sleeker look, a slight shift
Things look pretty much as expected from a peek back in November that revealed a clean, modern look without any real change to functionality.
The Song/Video switcher is gone from the top of Now Playing and has been moved into a scrollable row of actions at the bottom of the screen: Thumbs Up/Down, Comments, Save, Lyrics, Video/Song, Share, Download, and Radio. There’s a slight tweak to the scrubber bar which is now thicker.
To access Up Next, you now tap or pull up a drag handle with the current playlist or radio name. Then you get a new dual-pane view with a few upcoming tracks and the ability to expand further.
You can expand Related and Lyrics to explore each, but remember lyrics might soon be available only for Premium subscribers.
How to check for the update
This redesign is still rolling out. If you don’t see the change yet, go to Settings, find the YouTube Music app, and select Force Stop. Then open the app and the change might be there.
