Silence the crowd with this huge update from WhatsApp

One of the best messaging apps in the world just keeps getting better and better, with new updates arriving all the time. WhatsApp even managed to make a huge splash last month with the Pixel 10, offering voice and video calls through satellite. Naturally, Meta is also injecting AI tools into the platform which can be hit or miss.

And while WhatsApp continues to evolve, we’ve seen early features pop up in the beta, like voice messages for missed calls, and even allowing users to call attention to all users in a group chat with a single call out. This feature is similar to what we currently see in apps like Slack, allowing a call-out to the entire channel when needed.

Now, depending on how many people you have in the group chat, or how much someone uses this call-out feature, things could get pretty messy quickly, especially when you’re not really a huge part of the conversation. Well, it looks like WhatsApp has thought about that and is now offering a feature that will allow users in a group chat to mute these types of notifications.

The feature was discovered by WABetaInfo in the latest beta, coming in as version 2.25.27.1 via the Google Play Store. Once this feature is implemented, users will have the ability to completely silence call-outs in a group chat. This includes messages intended to the entire group using the “@everyone” command.

Now, if you’re someone that uses Slack on a daily basis, it’s easy to understand where WhatsApp got the inspiration for this feature. And being able to mute notifications like this in a group chat is an absolute must, especially when you aren’t connected to the content. Naturally, there are all kinds of applications for this, and it could be great for private conversations, work, and schools.

For the time being, this is only going to be available for those in beta, which any Android user can become a part of through the Google Play Store. And if you’re not as adventurous, you can always wait patiently, as this feature will most likely find its way to the public version of the app eventually.
