There’s no better feeling than buying a new phone, but once the excitement has worn off, it’s the continued software updates that really end up making the difference. Luckily, brands like Samsung have committed to long-term updates, providing up to seven years in some cases.
With that said, the brand has been doing a pretty good job of keeping its handsets up to date, with a big release with One UI 7, and we’re now seeing One UI 8 finding its way to some phones as well. Of course, we’re always curious about what comes next, and while we’ve seen glimpses of One UI 8.5, we’re now getting more information about what to expect from the update.
The Camera app update could introduce some huge features
The news was picked up by Android Authority, sharing that the next-generation camera app could introduce some beefy features, like support for LUTs when shooting videos. By being able to apply a LUT to your video in camera, you’ll be able to get an early preview of how things look before editing your footage. You can get a better idea of how this looks thanks to a video posted by @achour_hm on X.
With that said, there are also references to Samsung’s Advanced Professional Video (APV) in the code. As cameras have gotten better and better, we’ve seen smartphones used for professional and semi-professional projects. Again, this could indicate Samsung’s push to make its phones appeal to professional users.
Furthermore, there’s also indication that the new camera app could support 3D capture. This would make sense since Samsung is gearing up to release a new XR headset sometime this year. Being able to capture content on a phone and watching in on the new headset would make the experience seamless.
We’ve seen Apple follow this strategy with its own phones and Vision Pro headset. As far as other things to expect from Samsung One UI 8.5, the update should bring revamps to the overall design, a Quick Settings menu that’s more customizable, and the Gallery app that should see a major overhaul.
Naturally, this is still a work in progress, so there are a lot of things that could change before it sees a public release. If you want to give it a try, you can always sign up for Samsung’s beta program. Once a new beta software is available, you will be able to download it to your compatible Samsung device. Users will also have the option to provide feedback as well to improve the experience before its public release.
