Our smart homes have become a bit chatty. The constant pinging from your doorbell camera every time a leaf blows by or the security alert when your pet cat stages a heist on the kitchen counter is turning our digital assistants into sources of noise. Well, Google seems to have heard our collective sigh of frustration, as the company may be working on a new feature that could finally make smart home security notifications less overwhelming.
Buried in the latest Google Home app update (version 4.0.53.2) are clear signs of something called “Home Brief,” spotted by Android Authority. While details are still limited, Google has previously mentioned that it’s working on a tool designed to provide users with daily summaries of camera activity and other smart home alerts. Rather than receiving constant notifications, Home Brief would collect the most important events — such as package deliveries, motion at the door, or anything unusual — into one easy-to-read summary that you can check whenever you want.

Another interesting point is that Home Brief may not be a free feature. The app’s code links it to Google Home Premium, which seems to be an updated version of Nest Aware. Since Nest Aware already includes advanced camera features like longer video history, adding Home Brief fits well. The code also mentions that Premium could unlock Gemini Live and Ask Home, suggesting Google is building a larger AI-powered smart home system.
Users may also get trial periods. Strings in the app point to offers like “Try out advanced Gemini for Home features on all your compatible devices” and time-limited promos, though no exact durations were revealed. For context, Nest Aware trials usually run for about 30 days in select regions.
Home Brief is clearly aimed at solving a real problem. If you have multiple Nest cameras or sensors, you’re familiar with the overwhelming number of alerts. Adjusting settings helps, but it’s still easy to miss something important or get too many notifications. With a smarter, condensed summary, Google offers a way to access key updates without the extra noise. This idea is similar to what other companies are doing, such as Samsung’s Now Brief; however, Google’s version focuses on home security and automation.
