Google Pixel 10 owners hit by random app crashes

Facing sudden and random app crashes on your Pixel 10? You are not alone. Reports from Pixel 10 users have been pouring in over the weekend, complaining of sudden, repeated app crashes. The issue seems to have appeared out of the blue, with no clear root cause.

Some affected Pixel users have tried rebooting their phones multiple times in hopes of resolving the issue. However, this only works for a few minutes before the apps start crashing again.

The mysterious bug leads to apps freezing and Android showing a “ isn’t responding” dialog box. Reinstalling the app, clearing its cache, and associated data does not help resolve the problem.

Based on Reddit reports, the app crash only seems to affect Pixel 10 owners, with older Pixel users luckily being spared. That said, a few Pixel 9 users have also reported running into the same problem. Non-Pixel devices remain unaffected by these random app crashes.

Since the bug affects almost all Android apps, it likely stems from an issue with Google Play services.

One temporary workaround discovered by the Reddit community involves ensuring your Pixel 10 is running the October Android build. After that, uninstall the recent Google Play services and Play Store builds, then update them again. You’ll be signed out of your Google account in the process, but it should finally stop those random app crashes.

Only clearing Google Play services data seems to have worked for some users as well.

Alternatively, if apps are not randomly crashing on your Pixel yet, ensure not to update to the newest Google Play services build.

The frustrating workaround is the only fix for now

Until Google acknowledges the issue and rolls out a fix, your best bet is to clear the data or reinstall Google Play services. But given that it will sign you out of your Google account and affect apps that heavily rely on Play services, you might want to hold off on the workaround as long as possible.

This is not the first time Pixel users have run into such a weird bug. In 2023, a WebView or Chrome issue led to random app crashes for many Pixel users.
