Longtime Pokemon fans will tell you that nothing beats the “gotta catch ’em all” energy that each game provides. Pokemon Legends: Z-A certainly has hundreds of the critters to capture and raise, pulled from multiple generations from across the entire franchise. So far, the game’s menagerie looks impressive, as we’re seeing classic Pokemon like Pikachu and Dragonite sharing space with fan-favorite creatures like Umbreon, Metagross, and Espurr from later titles. In any case, our guide has all the details you need, as we discuss every available creature and the specific locations where you can find them.

Where to catch all Pokemon in Lumiose City

There are 230 Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and they’re scattered throughout Lumiose City. We’ve also organized our guide based on their Pokedex entries. Here are some additional tidbits to keep in mind:

  • If you’re just beginning the campaign, we encourage you to check our best starters guide and best early-game creatures guide.
  • The vast majority of Pokemon appear in Wild Zones, which are akin to their native habitats. You’ll only see a couple of these early in the game. However, you’ll unlock more of these areas as you progress further into the campaign. The last, Wild Zone 20, becomes accessible after beating the main story.
  • Certain Pokemon can spawn in other locations, such as sewers, alleyways, and rooftops. Some are obtained as rewards from side quests.
  • Alpha variants and Shiny variants can spawn, albeit randomly, instead of the regular versions.
  • A few Pokemon only appear during the day (i.e. diurnal), while a select few show up only at night (i.e. nocturnal). You can speed up the passage of time and the day-night cycle by resting on a bench.
  • The game also sees the return of Mega Evolutions, powerful–but temporary–boosts to strength that have the potential to turn the tide of battle when used properly. We discuss these in our Mega Evolutions guide.
  • The Mega Dimension expansion will arrive on February 28, 2026. This paid DLC will focus on more Mega Evolutions and Raichu, as the final evolutionary form of Pichu and Pikachu features prominently in the story expansion.

Note: It’s a good idea to continue catching Pokemon even if they’re already in your Pokedex. That’s because you continue to earn points from tallies that are part of Mable’s Research. As you increase in rank, you’ll earn rewards, including Technical Machines/TMs.
