HBO Max just got more expensive

Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Tuesday that HBO Max is raising prices across all of its plans, marking yet another price hike in the streaming industry.

The Basic with Ads plan now costs $10.99 per month, marking a $1 increase. The yearly plan is now priced at $109.99, up $10.

The Standard Plan now costs $18.49 per month, marking a $1.50 increase. The yearly plan now costs $184.99, up $15. The Premium plan is now priced at $22.99 per month, a $2 increase. The yearly plan now costs $229.99, marking a $20 increase.

For new subscribers, the updated prices go into effect on Tuesday, while existing customers will see the change on their first billing cycle on or after November 20.

HBO Max last raised prices in June 2024.

The move comes a few weeks after Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav stated that HBO Max would become more expensive. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference last month, Zaslav touted the quality of content on the platform and said it was underpriced.

“The fact that this is quality — and that’s true across our company, motion picture, TV production, and streaming quality — we all think that gives us a chance to raise prices,” Zaslav said. “We think we’re way underpriced.”

Zaslav also said that the streaming service’s crackdown on passwords would be coming in the future. Once HBO Max launches restrictions on password-sharing, it will join other popular streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ in doing so.

HBO Max’s more expensive pricing follows other streaming services that have announced price hikes in the last few weeks. Disney recently raised the price of Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions, and Apple increased the price of its streaming service in August.
