With Mega Evolution out in the wild and Phantasmal Flames preorders going in and out of stock, the Scarlet and Violet era of Pokémon TCG is looking a bit fuzzy. Well, Destined Rivals has some of the best artwork of the last generation and you shouldn’t miss out. Right now trainers can grab a Destined Rivals Team Rocket Tin containing five booster packs for $40.99 at TCGplayer, which is $6.95 cheaper than Amazon’s $47.94 listing.

Where to buy Pokémon cards in 2025 — avoid overpaying or missing out on new sets

Focusing on the generation one and two bad guys, Team Rocket, and Pokémon Gold and Silver’s protagonist Ethan, Destined Rivals continues the trainer Pokémon revival in Journey Together. The last time we saw these cards was back in the early 2000s Wizards of the Coast days, so for long-time trainers and collectors this set is a shot of nostalgia.

There are some incredible chase cards in Destined Rivals, with Team Rocket evil vibes to Ethan and Cynthia rocking their partner Pokémon. It’s such a cool set, but ripping packs to find these cards can get extremely expensive. After ripping open a booster box with a set, I tend to hunt down single cards and buy them, potentially saving hundreds of dollars over chasing that $500 Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex SIR.
