YouTube is the largest streaming platform globally, which is why it’s such a big deal when it receives major changes. Just a couple of weeks ago, YouTube shared some of the revamps that it would be introducing, and we’re now seeing those changes roll out, making its way to Android.
The update was spotted by 9to5Google, with YouTube showcasing bolder UI icons, and small changes to the app’s menu system. But real meaningful changes happen within the video player itself, giving users a whole new look that relies on softer UI elements, with nearly transparent icons and buttons.
A big change for YouTube
Now, this change is going to be subjective, but making interactive elements transparent seems like a good move, considering that it doesn’t obscure the content that’s on the screen. While this is now available on Android, you can bet this visual update will eventually find its way to other platforms as well.
In addition to the changes above, YouTube is also making content interaction more personal by adding custom “Like” button animations, which will be themed with the subject matter of the video that you’re watching. YouTube provides some examples, like a musical note animation when playing music videos.
There will also be new animations used when users interact with the app, like saving videos to playlists. Another major change to YouTube is going to come from the comment section, which will now have a threaded design, making it easier to see replies to comments when compared to before.
Those that love to engage with the community will be happy about the latest change, considering that the comment section on YouTube has been a mess for years. If you’re curious to experience this update for yourself, we recommend downloading the latest update from the Google Play Store.
And if you don’t like what you see, you can always leave feedback to the YouTube team through the app, or through the web portal. In addition to the update on Android, this update should be rolling out to iOS devices as well.
