The Witcher Showrunner Defends Controversial Moment From Season 4 Trailer

There may be a new actor, Liam Hemsworth, playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4, but as far as the series is concerned, he’s still the same character formerly played by Henry Cavill. Regardless, a line uttered by Hemsworth in The Witcher Season 4 trailer caused some backlash from fans who claimed that Geralt would have never said it. Now, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has come out and vigorously defended the line.

The line in question came at moment when Geralt drew his sword and said, “Let’s f***ing move.” At least a few Reddit users vehemently objected to it.

Hissrich expressed surprise that the line was controversial at all during an interview with Radio Times. She went on to explain why she feels it works for him.

“What I think is that line in the context of the battle that we’re in, it makes total sense,” said Hissrich. “It’s also a kick-ass line, and I think it’s one of those things that it’s like, you may go, ‘Oh, that’s not what my Geralt would say.’ Well, it is. It’s what our Geralt would say. And in this moment, it suits it perfectly, so I’m eager for audiences to take those moments from the trailer and actually see them in the context of the scenes. And I think it works quite well.”

Hemsworth recently noted that he was reluctant to join the series, but ultimately did so because he’s a fan of the franchise. Ciri actress Freya Allan has also been upfront about her fandom for the Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, and added that she leaned heavily on the books in Season 4 while adapting some of her favorite storylines for Ciri.

The Witcher Season 4 will debut on Netflix on October 30. There will be a fifth and final season, which recently finished filming. Outside of the show, The Witcher 3’s final update has been delayed to next year. CD Projekt Red is currently developing The Witcher 4, which doesn’t have a release date yet.
