Fitbit’s food log is not working

November 7, 2025

Hopefully, you don’t rely too heavily on the Fitbit food log to track and manage your meals, because that specific functionality has been broken for 24 hours, and back-to-back cheat days aren’t recommended when it comes to healthy eating.

The good news is that Fitbit does know about the problem in some capacity, which should be a big relief to the many users who rely on the platform to track their nutrition.

How bad is the outage?

Luckily, only the important features are down

Many fitness platforms have embraced the importance of nutrition when it comes to staying healthy, and Fitbit is no different, providing users with the ability to track their eating through its mobile app. Users can easily search for foods, scan barcodes, and generally streamline the arduous task of tracking everything they eat.

Unfortunately, that extremely convenient functionality has been broken for the last 24 hours, rendering the food log largely unusable for many users. More specifically, the ability to easily search for foods, add custom foods, and scan barcodes is broken.

When I tested it myself, I was able to access the food log and fill in food information, but when I clicked Save Custom Food, nothing happened, and no food was added to my log.

There should be a fix soon, though, as Google and Fitbit are aware of the situation, and have told users that they are “working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible.”

The stress of health tech outages

Food tracking can be a medical necessity

Health tech plays a major role in the lives of many who use it. Platforms like Fitbit house some pretty valuable and necessary information for some users, particularly those with medical issues that require careful planning and logging of meals, which can make outages like this one a lot more stressful. One Reddit poster noted that they “have no idea how to plan my day’s meals” without the Fitbit food log.

All that to say, Fitbit and its owner Google have more of a responsibility to avoid outages, particularly ones that last as long as this one has.
