YouTube Music is rolling out its 2025 Recap, and it has a unique, AI-powered “ask about your listening experience” chat that gives you insight about your listening habits over the past year.
The release date for the YouTube Music Recap does seem a bit early since there’s more than a month left until the end of the year, but that’s Google’s usual schedule. Last year’s Music Recap hit on Nov. 20 and the year before it appeared on Nov. 30.
Music listening recaps were first popularized by Spotify. Year after year, Spotify Wrapped is eagerly anticipated and shared widely across social media. After Spotify’s success, other major music streaming services like YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and Apple Music adopted similar recap formats that showcase what individual users listened to during the year.
The Recap is still rolling out
If you haven’t gotten your Recap yet, don’t fret. While it started to appear for some users last week, it isn’t available to everyone yet. You can check for it by opening YouTube Music, tapping your profile icon in the upper-right-hand corner, and selecting “Your Recap” from the list of available drop-down options.
The release will take some time to roll out. I’m one of the ones still waiting.
This year’s Recap gains AI insights
According to 9to5Google, the 2025 recap starts similarly to previous years, showing how long you listened to each artist. There are also highlights for things like your top artist or, as YouTube Music puts it, your “musical bestie.” A “musical passport” showcases the different places and countries that the artists you listen to are from.
What really differentiates the Recap this year is that it puts YouTube Music’s AI assistant Ask Music to use. You can chat with it to get insights and AI commentary on your listening habits. YouTube Music suggests prompts like: “Invent five genres to describe my listening,” “How did my listening change over the past year,” “Describe my listening as a weather report,” and “Was my music more chill or hype.” You’ll get the answers in a graphic that is, in the spirit of the Recap, shareable.
