Amazon makes it easy to move to color with its Kindle Colorsoft falling to its lowest price ever

It doesn’t take much to improve the experience on an e-reader because they’re already so good, but adding color will make a world of difference, especially if you’re someone that loves to enjoy content with visuals like manga or comics.

While color e-readers have been around for a little while, Amazon’s first color device, the Kindle Colorsoft, didn’t arrive until late 2024. It even delivered a refresh of the device in mid-2025 in order to improve the quality and make it more affordable.

A great time to buy

If you’ve been looking to make the jump to color, the price was probably your largest huge hurdle. Although the 16GB version came in at a more affordable price at $250, it’s still quite a bit to pay for an e-reader.

Luckily, Black Friday is here and Amazon is looking to take your money, as it drops the Kindle Colorsoft down to its best price ever at just $170. This is the best price we’ve seen all year on this model, making it a great time to pick one up.

Why go color?

If you’re someone that reads books, going to a color screen won’t make that big of a difference. However, if you’re someone that reads graphic novels, manga, or comics — color is going to add a huge boost to the experience.

It’s also pretty handy if you’re someone that sends content to their e-reader using a service like Instapaper. While I don’t get to enjoy books all that often, I love being able to read news articles and being able to get some sense of what the original image looked like.

Price makes all the difference

As stated before, the original price of the Kindle Colorsoft was pretty expensive. But this new price for Black Friday actually makes it worth taking a look at. If you’ve been thinking about dabbling in color content, we think now’s going to be a great time to give it a try.

The new Kindle Colorsoft keeps everything we love about Kindle, but now in color. Finally, book covers pop and comics look the way they should. Sure, it’s pricier than your average e-reader, but it nails that perfect Kindle feel while adding something fresh.
