28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is coming, and with it the clash of two compelling new characters from Danny Boyle‘s 28 Days Later film series, which centers on a UK ravaged by the Rage Virus.

In Boyle’s 28 Years Later, the director introduced us to the misunderstood Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes), who builds spooky spires of human bone as a remembrance of the dead. We also met Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell), an eccentric survivor of the initial onslaught, who has grown up to form his own merry band of zombie slayers. Plus, at the movie’s end, he’d taken in young Spike (Alfie Williams), who had left his father and island community behind.

From this new trailer, we see Jimmy declare Kelson the devil, and we see Spike is geared up in a tracksuit like the rest of Jimmy’s crew. There are new evolutions of the infected persons, including the monstrous Alpha zombie, whose rampage in 28 Years Later left us breathless. And yet, it might well be a man who’s the biggest threat to Spike’s survival in this sequel.

Hedda helmer Nia DaCosta directs 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which looks back to the beginning and forward to a future where perhaps the infected can be saved from Rage? “A leap into the unknown” is coming, and we’re ready.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple exclusively in movie theaters Jan. 16, 2026.
