Google Pixel 9 Pro display woes lead to extended repair program

December 9, 2025

Google has announced an extended repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro and its XL sibling for a display issue. It’s also extending the warranty of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold from one year to three years to cover any potential future problems.

Vertical green lines suddenly appearing on the display have been a common problem in smartphones released a few years ago. Samsung and OnePlus already offer free or heavily discounted repair programs for affected devices. Newer-generation OLED panels are generally not impacted, but it seems Google has determined that the Pixel 9 Pro lineup could develop a similar problem in the future.

That’s why it is running an extended repair program that will cover affected Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL devices for three years from the original purchase date. Its support page states that the repair program only covers a “vertical line on the display,” and “it must run from bottom to top.” Display flickering on the Pixel 9 Pro is also covered under the program.

Do note that a cracked display or other major hardware or liquid damage may make your Pixel 9 Pro/XL ineligible for the program. In such cases, you’ll have to pay out of your pocket for the repair.

Repairs for the vertical line display issue are available starting December 8, 2025. If you have previously paid for a screen replacement by an authorized repair center for a similar issue, Google may contact you directly.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold warranty extended for three years

Google is also extending the warranty on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold by three years from the date of purchase. The company says that it has “determined that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices may experience issues that affect functionality of the device.”

However, the extended warranty only applies to devices “if it exhibits issues that affect the functionality of the device.” In such cases, Google will provide a replacement device at no charge. All such units will be covered under warranty for 90 days.

Google does not clearly explain the problem affecting its second-gen fold, but based on the wording on the support page, it also appears related to the display. And like the Pixel 9 Pro, units with cracked displays or liquid damage will not be eligible for the program.
