Following the release of Google Search’s Preferred Sources to a very small subset of users earlier this year, the tech giant is finally ready to bring the tool to users globally.
As the feature’s name suggests, it allows users to define sources they’d like prioritized in Search. It made its way to US-based users that opted-in via Labs back in June, followed by its expansion to users in the US and India without the need to opt-in via Labs.

Google has decided that the feature’s early-testing phase is now ready to come to a close, and users around the world will soon be able to access it for English-language results.
In the coming days, the feature will make its way to English-language users worldwide. Subsequently, it will expand to “all supported languages early next year.”
This builds on the great early feedback we’ve heard from users and websites. People have selected a wide range of preferred sources — nearly 90,000 unique sources, from local blogs to global news outlets.
Elsewhere, the tech giant is now also making it easier to spot links from your news subscriptions. The change, which makes it easier to spot content from sources you trust, will highlight your subscriptions in a dedicated carousel.
This functionality will roll out to the Gemini app in the coming weeks, with AI Overviews and AI Mode to follow suit soon.
AI Mode links can now explain their value
All while visually highlighting links better, Google is also increasing the number of inline links that appear in its AI tools. For example, AI Mode will now highlight more inline links, complete with contextual introductions to embedded links in AI Mode’s responses.

Preferred Sources will expand over the coming days, while easy subscription spotting will be available in the coming weeks. Contextual introductions to embedded links and an increase in the number of inline links in AI Mode should kick-in any time now.
