Google Gemini just got a big NotebookLM upgrade

December 15, 2025

NotebookLM is easily among Google’s best AI tools. It acts as your personal research and writing assistant, using the strength of AI to summarize and explain information from your uploaded sources. In August this year, reports pointed to Google working on bringing NotebookLM integration to Gemini, combining two of its most powerful AI tools together. Four months later, the feature appears to be going live.

TestingCatalog first spotted the NotebookLM integration in Gemini going live over the weekend. With this integration, you can tell Gemini to use a specific NotebookLM notebook as context for your queries. It’s also possible to use more than one notebook as a source and use the NotebookLM integration within Gems.

After selecting a notebook in NotebookLM as a source, you can use Gemini’s reasoning capabilities to gather more information about the subject.

For now, the NotebookLM integration only seems to have gone live in Gemini on the web. I don’t see the option in the Gemini app for Android, though the web version works fine. Even otherwise, the rollout seems to be a slow one, as it is not live across all my Google accounts.

If you are a heavy NotebookLM user, this Gemini integration can speed up your productivity and enhance your productivity. You can directly invoke Gemini and get answers based on your trusted sources.

The Gemini-NotebookLM integration comes hot on the heels of Google rolling out several improvements to the latter. This includes launching an Ultra NotebookLM tier as part of its AI Ultra plan with higher limits and additional features.

That’s in addition to the mobile app gaining features like image-based sources, Infographics and Slide Decks support, and the ability to save progress in Audio Overviews.

If you have not already, it’s time to start using NotebookLM. Google keeps rapidly improving its AI-powered notebook to deliver an even better experience.
