If your Pixel or Galaxy Watch is acting funny, we now know why

If your Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch hasn’t been acting quite right after its Wear OS 6 update, you’re not alone. There are reports across the internet where third-party watch faces are causing issues, where the transition from the always-on display isn’t all that smooth, leaving an unsightly after image on the display.

Not something you want to see

The news comes from PiunikaWeb (via Android Authority) shedding light on the display bug that’s hitting some watches after the Wear OS 6 update. This also applies to the recent Wear OS 6.1 update as well. Although this isn’t a problem that can damage your watch, it is frustrating to see visual artifacts on the display due to a bad transition.

Now, apparently, this isn’t the fault of any specific apps or watch faces, and is instead something on Google’s end with Wear OS. So, if you have a Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch, there’s a pretty good chance you might be seeing this happen to your device. It’s important not to be alarmed, as your hardware should be okay.

Google and Samsung are aware

For the time being, the issue has been highlighted on Google and Samsung websites that track these sorts of problems. And while it can be frustrating, it’s something that users will need to be patient with.

Both companies are aware of this issue, and apparently, people have been chiming in for some months now about this specific problem. Hopefully, reports like these will shine a more direct light on the issue, forcing someone’s hand to create a solution.

Plenty of workarounds but no real fix yet

As you can imagine, folks have figured out a few ways to clear up this issue, like swapping watch faces. Although this isn’t a permanent fix, you will see the issue come back after some time, and it will require you to keep swapping watch faces until you’re ready to throw in the towel.

Those that are a bit braver can also dive into the code and make some changes. By setting the transition time to “0”, this will remove the fading transition when going from live watch face to always-on display, which should fix the problem.

However, for most people, it’s going to be a better option to just swap to a stock watch face for the time being in order not to have to really deal with all the headaches. Let’s just hope a fix is coming, because this isn’t a problem anyone wants to live with.
