Baldur’s Gate 3 was the kind of game that could take hours to get started, thanks in part to a rich character customization suite that allowed players to fine-tune everything from their race to several minute details. For the upcoming Divinity, developer Larian Studios says that players can expect “even better” options for fine-tuning their character when the game eventually launches.
“We are planning to have an even better one! More colors, more options, more control,” Divinity art director Alena Dubrovina wrote in a Reddit AMA session.
That’s a high bar for the studio to set, considering just how detailed the Baldur’s Gate 3 character customization system is. Beyond the standard options, players can also tinker with unique biological traits depending on the race they choose, fiddle around with facial features, and much more. Just when you think you’ve got your character nailed down, the game also offers you a chance to design a Spirit Guardian for your adventurer, a character who will appear in your dreams.
Divinity was unveiled at The Game Awards last year, and since then, a few more details on the game have been revealed. You can expect co-op play when the RPG launches, and in response to the backlash about the use of generative AI, studio CEO Swen Vincke confirmed that Divinity won’t feature “any GenAI art.”
Following the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Vincke admitted that there’s “more pressure” now on Larian, but he believes that Divinity will be better than Baldur’s Gate 3 “on all fronts.”
