Protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have spread across America, demanding justice after the killing of 37-year-old mother Renee Good by an ICE officer in Minneapolis last week.
But as Jimmy Kimmel noted in his monologue on Tuesday night, Donald Trump gave a speech in at the Detroit Economic Club this week in which he “attempted to convince those in attendance that the protests in Minneapolis are not real,” calling these very real demonstrations “fake riots.”
“First, they want us to believe that we did not see what we all saw happen overnight,” said Kimmel in the clip above. “Now he wants us to believe the protests aren’t real. It’s like The Emperor’s New Clothes in reverse; he’s telling us we’re the ones who are naked while they do their best to cover everything up.”
Meanwhile, fellow late night host Stephen Colbert also spent time during his monologue unpacking the Trump administration’s deployment of thousands of federal immigration agents in Minnesota, despite Minneapolis officials urging them to leave.
