Donald Trump gave a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday and Seth Meyers used his “A Closer Look” segment on Late Night to reluctantly recap what happened.
“Donald Trump addressed world leaders in Davos and gave a very normal speech,” Meyers said, “to which he repeatedly confused Greenland with Iceland, called windmills ‘losers,’ said the U.S. gives Canada freebies, mocked the president of France for wearing sunglasses, made up a new country called Aberbajan, and told the crowd in Switzerland, where the majority people speak German, that without the United States, they would be speaking German, which is what they already speak.
“For more on this, it’s time for ‘Seth Stares at the Ceiling and Hopes the Bad News Goes Away.'”
Like fellow late night host Stephen Colbert, Meyers noted that the U.S. president has repeatedly mixed up Iceland and Greenland in Davos, despite threatening to take ownership of Greenland (autonomous Danish territory) not Iceland (Nordic country).
“He can’t even remember the name of the territory he wants to conquer,” said Meyers. “Hold on, I’m going to try staring at the ceiling again.”
