Google TV’s update schedule hasn’t been the best recently, with updates being both infrequent and small. However, the latest update is worth paying attention to. Not because it adds much that’s particularly notable, but because it adds something that might be worth paying attention to in the future.
Small tweaks, and … a report history?
Most of the changes are to Google TV Home, and as of Home 1.0.852105632, we’ve only got a few small changes and tweaks. The biggest new addition is that of a “report history” section to the Settings app. According to the description, this section shows the status of reports you’ve made to Google. You can also withdraw them, if you want to.
This sounds fantastic, except for one small problem. What reports? There’s no report system currently available on Google TV, so it’s not immediately clear what this section currently does.
The assumption is that Google is preparing to implement a report system into Google TV. This is a very good thing. Google TV has been plagued by inappropriate ads and recommendations for some time now, so it’s good to see that Google is finally taking some steps to combat that.
It’s not outside of expectations for Google to roll out new features in a piecemeal fashion, at least where Google TV is concerned. Google TV owners tend to get things in bits. For instance, Google Home rolled out in late 2024, but didn’t get a section in the Settings app until mid-2025. As such, expect to see more about reports in coming updates.
Aside from the new reports section, Google also seems to have fixed the long-standing YouTube preview thumbnail bug that had been hanging around Google TV for some time. Now, YouTube previews will display with the correct aspect ratio.
Once again, it’s another relatively small update for Google TV, but that’s become par for the course now. At the very least, Google has some ideas on how it can make some positive changes to the platform, even if it’s unlikely to be anything huge.
