Microsoft Expects More Xbox Content and Services Revenue Decline Despite Game Pass Growth

I believe gamepass is what’s killed Xbox as a platform. Before gamepass sure compared to Playstation console sales and game sales where no where near playstation. But it was consistent for them and this was also while Microsoft was just releasing Halo, Gears, Forza.

But at least it was consistent. 40+ million console sales, 30+ million Xbox gold subs, 3rd and 1st party physical and digital sales where ok not as good as playstation but ok.

They really did ruin it with gamepass. They genuinely thought we offer a rental service for £10 a month and put Halo, Gears and Forza as well as some 3rd party games. It would equal more consoles sales, more subscriptions and playstation players jumping over to Xbox. None of this happened. It simply turned the majority of the Xbox fan base into renters.

Then buying Activision really put the nail in the coffin.
