You know an idea is good when other brands start to experiment or release a version of their own. Towards the end of last month, Spotify debuted its new Prompted Playlist feature, giving users a new way to create playlists and experience music.
And it would be an understatement to say that it looks like YouTube was inspired from the sidelines. With that said, the brand has now also debuted its own version of that same feature. YouTube shared the news through X, giving users, and those curious a look of what to expect.
YouTube is introducing something similar of its own
Before you get too excited, the new YouTube AI Playlist feature will only be available to Premium subscribers for now. Users will be able to create a new playlist by using a prompt, similar to what’s currently available for Spotify members. Unfortunately, that’s where all the details pretty much end, as there doesn’t seem to be too much else known about the feature.
It’s possible that this is just something basic from YouTube for now, and it could end up evolving at a later time. There doesn’t appear to be a way to edit playlists, or even tweak what’s generated. Of course, if you want to give this a try, you can head into the YouTube Music app, hit New, AI Playlist, and then fill in the prompt.
It’s also unclear how AI Playlist is different from the current YouTube Ask Music feature. Current Premium members can use this to create and access new playlists that are created using AI. For the most part, on the surface, it at least feels the same. Naturally, we will just have to wait in order to compare both features and see how different they are.
The YouTube AI Playlist feature will be available on Android and iOS devices. I’m not personally seeing this on any devices I own, so if you’re not seeing either, you’ll want to be patient if you’re looking for it.
