Are you too young to remember the PS3?
The console launched a year later, more expensive, and with the worse version of multiplatform games and a weak online infrastructure. GTA IV also had the dlc exclusive for about a year.
Add in that X360 had a much better controller (and with force feedback), PS3 was painfully slow without installs, lacked a trophy system for a while, and came out within days of Gears of War and Wii…? Sony mounted a crazy comeback. And this is WITH Xbox having some killer exclusives including JRPGs like Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, and Lost Odyssey. To say only Nintendo can “bring it back” is just ignoring history.
It was absolutely Microsoft’s generation for a while.
