It’s no secret that Samsung hasn’t paid close attention to the S Pen since the Galaxy S25 Ultra last year. Unfortunately, things haven’t changed with the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s announcement this week, as the phone features a practically unchanged version of the stylus. This has understandably led to the belief that the S Pen isn’t a major part of Samsung’s plans for its future flagships.
Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to be the case, at least according to Won-Joon Choi, president and chief operating officer at Samsung’s MX (Mobile eXperience) division. In an extensive interview with Bloomberg, Choi touched on several topics, including uncertainty about a successor to the Galaxy S25 Edge. What also caught our attention is the mention of the company’s plans for an upcoming version of the S Pen stylus.
Choi told the publication that the S-Pen stylus will remain among the company’s “core technologies,” adding that a “more advanced” iteration is in the works:
“We’re working on a more advanced technology within S-Pen to come up with a new structure of display, so the penalty of having S-Pen is diminished.”
Choi didn’t offer any additional details about this upgraded version of the beloved stylus, though these words from Samsung’s top brass should offer some respite to fans who felt the S Pen would soon be a thing of the past. While we would love to see this upgraded S Pen come bundled with the Galaxy S27 Ultra next year, it’s too early to tell if that will happen.
Privacy Display could’ve been here a year ago
In the same interview, Choi revealed that the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s anti-snooping Privacy Display was originally intended to debut last year with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. “We were almost there. But we had to kind of solve a couple of the last challenges. So we took another year to resolve those,” the executive told Bloomberg.
I tested the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and the Privacy Display has to be seen to be believed
The world-first feature is very special, but there’s a lot more to the phone
Choi said the idea was proposed 3-4 years ago, with development commencing three years ago in collaboration with Samsung Display. Additionally, there could come a day when Privacy Display sheds its Ultra exclusivity and is implemented across other variants. For reference, Privacy Display is exclusively available on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, with the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ missing out.
However, bringing Privacy Display to all models in future Galaxy flagships will be contingent on the feature having been around for a while, “and if we believe it’s time to propagate it to other models, we’ll consider doing so,” Choi told Bloomberg.
